Hi, hello, is this thing on??

Hi!

Remember when blogs used to be like little personal diaries where writers would share about their life and happenings? That feels like a thing of the past, these days. In some ways, I think it’s good. I think the line between personal and public got a little too blurred and there was too much information being put out there for just anyone to read. In other ways, I think it has removed some of the connection between the writer and the reader, which is sad. Anyway, this is me running it back to 2011/2012 and just sharing a little life check-in!

We are one day away from the first of September and that feels nuts. I blinked and the summer is over and we’re gearing up for the fall season already. Don’t get me wrong, I’m ready for fall — it’s my favorite season and doesn’t last long enough! But the pace at which time is passing by is hard to manage sometimes.

We had an incredibly busy summer with traveling. We spent 2.5 weeks in Wisconsin, Liam and I spent a long weekend in NY, and we spent a week in SC with some of our best friends. It was wonderful and I’m so thankful we have the flexibility and ability to do those trips, but it was very busy. Once we got home from our last trip in mid-August, I was grateful to be able to settle into home life and get ready for the school year to begin.

Speaking of the school year, Liam is on his second week of first grade and loving it! He loved Kindergarten and had a wonderful first year of elementary school, which we were so glad for. I’m hopeful that this year will be just as enjoyable for him. The growth in kindergarten was pretty amazing (learning to read, social skills, independence, etc.), so I’m looking forward to seeing what this year brings!

Preschool resumes again for Cam and Audrey soon, which I’m also excited for! They love their school and their little pals there, so they are happy about going back. I love that they get to go have fun and socialize and learn for half of the day and then get to be home playing with us the other half – it’s a great balance for us.

We haven’t had any sort of consistent or reliable schedule since June, so something I’m very much looking forward to is settling into that (once preschool starts again!). I love working from home, but you can imagine (or maybe you know first-hand) that it’s more difficult to do it when there’s little feet running all over. It will be nice to be able to have a few hours each day when the house is quiet to get things done and then hopefully feel like I can be more checked in when the kids are home!

As far as things for me go, I stepped into some sort of state of delusion where I think I have enough time to revive my little side gig shop. I love being creative, especially by creating things with my hands, so I’ve slowly started making some bar charms and things again. It’s a good way for me to decompress and slow my brain down and I love being able to share my creativity with others!

I’ve done some great fall shopping, which I’ll share with you soon, and also developed a “fall style moodboard” to help me hone in on my vibe for my fall wardrobe. I just recently got rid of 12+ bags of clothing, shoes, and accessories from my closet, so I am really challenging myself to be incredibly selective with what I add back into it. If an item doesn’t fit within my moodboard or fill a gap that needs to be filled in my closet, it doesn’t get a spot. I’ll report back in a couple months on how that goes, as a serial shopper!

That’s the update for now, we’ll talk again soon!
