It’s high time for a new series regular around here!
Transparently, as the blogger/content creator/influencer industry has evolved over the last few years, it’s been a very interesting journey for me to decide where and how to best spend my time in regards to content. Where it used to be very important to pour time and energy into lengthy, in-depth blog posts, now it’s expected to post 5 TikToks, 15 Instagram story frames and a Reel in one day. Okay, that’s a little dramatic, but not too far off. It’s an ever-changing industry that keeps me on my toes. All that to say, my time spent writing out blog posts has been largely allocated to social media content, but I do miss the simplicity and conversational style of a good blog post!
With that in mind, let me introduce The Monthly Catch-Up. A space where I can share all the random, seemingly insignificant things that are going on in my home and my life that maybe don’t make it to Instagram. So, let’s get into it!
We’re a couple weeks out from Halloween and I’m so looking forward to it! Since having kids, it has become one of my favorite holidays because it’s all fun! This is a holiday that Audrey and Liam thrive in – they love to dress-up and consume as much sugar as possible, so they will be in heaven on the 31st. Cam is usually uninterested in sweets (though he’s coming around a bit!) and definitely doesn’t enjoy dressing up, but I know he will still have fun. Our neighborhood is so great for Halloween – everyone decorates their yards and front porches, everyone is out trick-or-treating for hours on Halloween. The streets are like a scene out of a movie. It’s so much fun! We usually go around with our neighbors and my sister and her family come to our area, too.
We’re about 6 weeks into the hockey season for Liam and it has been so fun! Mike and I weren’t sure what to expect, seeing as we’ve never done an organized sport for our kids and we’ve never had a kid play hockey, but we’ve been pleasantly surprised! It’s very low-key, which I appreciate given Liam’s age. He has one practice on Saturdays and one game on Sundays. They don’t have refs or keep score – it’s purely for the fun of playing and to get the kids comfortable on the ice and learning some of the basics of playing the game! Liam has had a blast so far, which is all that matters!
We’re on the cusp of wondering if we should transition Cam and Audrey out of their cribs and into regular-sized beds. On one hand, I would love to just do it to check that box, but they’re also perfectly happy and fine in their cribs, so I don’t want to risk messing that up! I usually hate having changes lingering over my head – I just want to make the change, get the thing done, and move onto the next, but I’m not certain that’s the correct motivation in this circumstance. We will see!
It’s a long ways out, but we booked a trip for Spring Break! Earlier this year, my mom, sister, and I went on a little girls weekend to the Orlando area and stayed at a resort that I immediately knew would be a great option to take the kids. I had considered trying to make a trip with them later in the spring of this year, but it just didn’t work with our schedule. Flash forward to a couple weeks ago and my mom and I were chatting spring break plans and then decided we should go together! It will be so fun to take the kids and such a nice benefit to experience it with my parents and have some help, especially with all the water activities. At this point, we’re not planning on doing any Disney parks or anything, but may consider doing something with just Liam for an afternoon. I’m not sure! I’m looking forward to it!
Last thing, I’m listening to my third book by Rebecca Yarros and thoroughly enjoying it. It’s called Variation. If you’re looking for a good read/listen, I’d recommend and I haven’t even finished it yet!
