Now that we are moving right along on the project in our backyard, I’m starting to really think through my vision for furniture and how I want to style it. This is the most fun part for me!
The whole dream behind this backyard was to create a space for our family to spend time together and to have a space to invite other friends and family over to play and make memories. I want it to be calming and beautiful, but functional and useful for us. Here’s what I’ve come to imagine, as far as furniture and decor goes:
I have dreamt of having an outdoor table to eat at, so that will definitely be something that we get. While the summers can be pretty brutal here, there are plenty of mornings or evenings throughout the rest of the year that we can enjoy a snack or a meal around the table. I love the idea of inviting another family over, watching the kids run and play in the backyard, then gathering around the table to enjoy a meal together.
We waffled on installing a permanent fire pit with the patio and opted not to…and I am so glad! I didn’t want to be constrained to having that permanent structure in the middle of the patio and I love the idea of a gas fire pit that we can just flip on when we want fire. There’s an area in the back of the yard that Mike can set up a real wood fire to enjoy once a year, but otherwise we will get some type of fire table like this to have! When it came to selecting furniture, I opted for as low maintenance as possible while still being comfortable and looking really nice. I didn’t want any cushions or fabric to deal with, so I got this set from Frontgate and I’m very excited for it to arrive!
Once I have the big pieces in, I’ll be able to fill in with some smaller decor elements, like pots and lights and other small furniture (maybe a chic storage container for sofa pillows and an outdoor blanket?!). I am so excited to see this all come together and to be able to work on creating a space that is so dear to my heart for my kids.
