Creating Dual-Purpose Space In Our Home

Since my last playroom reveal post, we’ve changed a couple things in the room! Surprise, surprise. As we’ve lived in our house, we’ve found some things that we wanted to have that we didn’t, including an auxiliary space for additional guests. There have been a couple of times that we’ve wanted to be able to sleep more than just 2 people in our house but haven’t been able to. We have a designated guest room with a bathroom, which gets used quite a bit. We wanted to add a pull-out sofa for things like holidays when we may have more than just 2 people or when kids come to visit and need a place to sleep.

We have a bonus room on our second floor, which serves as Liam’s playroom. Since that’s already a big space, we decided to replace the existing sofas we had in there with this pull-out sofa and it’s perfect! The playroom has a bathroom connected to it, so I made that a little more guest-friendly, too. We wouldn’t have taken up another bedroom to serve as a second guest room, so I love that we were able to make his playroom dual purpose. Like I said, it will probably only be used as a guest space a couple times a year, but it’s great to have that option to offer to people staying with us!

Creating a multi-purpose area like this is a great option if you don’t have a designated guest room. While I love to have a separate bedroom that is always ready for people to stay at our house, the only thing that matters is that we’re able to open up our home to friends and loved ones when they come. Ultimately, people will remember how they felt when they spent time with you at your house – you can make someone feel welcomed and loved no matter the sleeping arrangements!

If you do have guests coming to stay with you soon, I shared some simple tips to prepare your home in this post.

What’s the wall color in the playroom? Considering paint around my house and so helpful to see colors in the wild!

Also how big is that light fixture and do you guys ever hit your head? Looks great but huge! Thanks!!

Our entire house is SW First Star! Pendant is about 21 x 27 — Mike would hit his head if he walked into it, but he just avoids it!
