Hair Tutorial: How I Curl My Hair & The Products I Use

To watch how I curl my hair, check out this video:

Shampoo/Conditioner

Function of Beauty & Prose — I’ve been alternating between these two and like both! I love that you can personalize your products a bit. I used Pureology products for years and also like those.

Then I use a hair towel afterwards. This one from Aquis is one of my favorites.

Post-Shower Products

Aquage Uplifting Foam – gives the best volume! I spray directly on my roots and work in with my finger tips.

Living Proof Full Thickening Mousse – This gives a great extra bit of body. I pump a small amount into my hand and work into my hair.

Kerastase L’incroyable Blowdry – This is a newer product that I’m using and I love it.  I pump a couple pumps into my hand and spread evenly throughout my damp hair. It works to protect from heat damage, increase shine, and as a “memory” lotion. When you re-touch or re-style your hair the next day, this lotion will reactivate to allow you to change your style without having to start from clean hair.

I use all three of these products on towel-dried hair every time I blow-dry.

Styling Tools

Rusk Blow Dryer – I blow dry my hair upside down for extra volume! I then sleep on it and style the next morning – that’s just what works best for my hair.

T3 Whirl Trio – I use the 1″ barrel.

T3 Lucea ID 1″ Flat Iron – I love that I can customize the heat to my hair texture and more.

To preserve my hair style, I’ll tie loosely in a Silk Hair Tie and sleep on a Silk Pillowcase

Post Styling Products

Kenra Volume Spray – The GOAT hairspray.

Sexy Hair Dry Shampoo – I’ve been using this for years. It adds a great bit of grit while also working as a dry shampoo. I only use this on clean hair since it is so heavy.

Navy Pebble Beach Dry Texture Spray – This texture spray is fantastic. A little goes a long way!

Living Proof PHD Dry Shampoo – This is a great dry shampoo for day 2 and beyond. Actually works to clean your hair.

Navy Sailor Talk – Or I will use this one! This is lighter and doesn’t add any of that dry shampoo feeling to your hair.

Which of these I use depends on how I styled my hair and/or what I need to help refresh my style.

Seems like so much product! Does your hair feel dirty after all that? How often do you wash?

It doesn’t feel dirty, or I wouldn’t use the products I use! I wash it every 2-3 days.

I’ve been using the same one for probably 10+ years – yikes! It’s one that my sister gave to me from the beauty store — I can’t even read the brand name anymore.

Does all the product give you any irritation on your scalp?

I have no issues with the product I use, or I wouldn’t use them!

Thank you for sharing this! I’ve been looking forward to the content! Is your hair layered or one length? It looks layered, but I could be wrong. Just looking for a good description of your cut for my stylist.

Do you like the Rusk Dryer better than your T3 travel dryer? I am shopping for a new hairdryer and am considering the T3 Fit. Any opinions on current hairdryers? I saw that the T3 travel is no longer at Sephora.
    Thanks so much!

I like them both similarly! T3 is great, but you can get a similar experience with the Rusk CTC Lite for less $$!

When I watched your video, you did a lot more smaller size pieces of hair curled than I would have thought, but it comes together so well in the end. I don’t do as many and also don’t flat iron my ends so they are more curled and I don’t use the wrapping around the barrel as I have an iron with a prong. But yours looks more modern, so I’m gonna try. And I must not know how to tease hair, wow you got a lot of volume, or maybe I just need a real teasing comb! 🤣
