My Plan for our Screened-In Porch

One of the things that I was looking forward to about living in Raleigh was the possibility of finding a home with a screened-in porch, as they’re quite common here. We had a deck at our last home, which was great, but I’m so happy to have a more private, covered space in our home now. With summer just around the corner, I wanted to get started making the area functional for us because I know we’ll be spending a ton of time out there!

Here’s what I’m thinking for it:

Acrylic Pitcher | Acrylic Wine Glasses | Wall Planters | Café Lights | Side TableSectional | Rug | Yucca Plant | Gold Coffee Table | Water Hyacinth Serving Tray | Citronella Candle | Ivory Pillow | Striped Pillow | Tassel Pillow |  Egg Chair (similar option) | Galvanized Metal Cart | Faux Bird of Paradise Tree | Modern Plant Stand

Knowing how we live inside our house, we definitely want to focus on the lounge furniture for the porch. We hope to build out a patio in the yard, so that is where we would put dining furniture, if we choose to. To be honest, I really don’t like eating food outside unless there’s no trace of bugs and the weather is perfect. Since I don’t have much control over either of those things, I’m not sure if we’ll end up investing in dining furniture, but who knows! Anyway, I say all that because we aren’t doing dining furniture on the porch. While we’ve got a good amount of space to work with, I don’t want to overload it with a bunch of furniture that I’m not sure we’ll use. We already have our egg chair from our last home, so it will then be adding a sectional couch for seating. I’d like to have a couple tables and serving pieces to hold decor and function for when we have guests.

Beyond the furniture, it’s all about creating a cozy and inviting space. One of the easiest ways to cozy up a space is adding a rug, so we’ll definitely put one out there. I’ve used indoor/outdoor rugs before and have had good luck with two things: making sure I read the reviews on the item and spot cleaning/power washing, as needed. I want to get some cute outdoor throw pillows for the sectional, hang café lights, and add some plants to fill the visual space.

So that’s what I’m thinking. I’m looking forward to seeing it come together and will definitely share with you along the way!

Beautiful! Would you mind sharing the dimensions of your porch? I really love your style and also have a similar space but I’m terrible at finding the correct size furniture for a space.

Also, cant wait to “meet” your sweet baby boy. I have 18 month old twin girls. They bring me so much joy! You’re going to be the best momma. 💙
