Chex Mix Recipe

I originally shared this recipe back in the early days of this blog, probably in 2011, so I thought it was due an update! I grew up on this Chex mix and still make it several times a year! My mom’s version is a little different (she omits cheez-it’s and rye chips, and usually adds in some sort of nuts and plain pretzels), but it’s one of those recipes that you can’t screw up. You can totally customize it to your preferences, too! You can add or omit anything on the list, finding your favorite combination of ingredients along the way. Truthfully, it’s all in the sauce, anyway.

I’ve made this several times for my nephews and Luke, in particular, loves it. He’s a snacker, so I’m not surprised! Last time I went to visit, he greeted me and then quickly asked if I brought any of my, “Lolo mix” with (Aunt Lolo is how I’m known to my nephews and niece!). It’s a crowd-pleaser all around!

So, here’s what I do:

In the Mix:
Crispix cereal, Cheez-it’s, Goldfish Crackers, Butter Pretzels, Sesame Sticks, Garlic Rye Chips (Gardetto’s brand)
*use enough of each to fill a 9×13″ casserole dish

The Sauce:
1/2 cup Butter, melted
4 1/2 tsp Worcestershire Sauce
1 1/4 tsp Seasoning Salt
Optional: 1 tsp garlic powder, a few dashes of tabasco
*I double this when I make it, since I make 2 pans at a time!

Baking instructions:
250º for 1 hour, stirring every 20 minutes

When I make this, I use an entire box of Crispix cereal, a whole box of Cheez-its, a whole bag of Goldfish crackers (either the rainbow or baby version), most of a bag of pretzels, about a cup of sesame sticks, and most of a bag of garlic rye chips. I mix all the dry ingredients up well in two 9×13″ casserole. dishes. Once all the dry ingredients are ready, simply melt the butter, stir in the Worcestershire sauce and seasoning salt, and pour evenly over the mix. Make sure to stir it up well, so that all of the little pieces have been touched by the sauce!

Pop it in the oven and bake! Don’t forget to stir it up twice during the baking time, so that every piece gets sauce on it and it bakes evenly.
