My Trick to Feeling Pulled Together

If you’ve spent any time around here or scrolling through my Instagram photos, you know that cozy clothes are basically my love language. I have my own business and work from home, which means there isn’t any sort of expectation for how I dress or look every day. Some days, I work best in my pajamas and bedhead, other days I like to take the time to pull myself together a bit before starting the day. Since I reach for leggings 4/5 days of the work week, I’m particularly skilled at building an outfit around leggings that I also feel confident in to go out in public wearing.

I like to keep things simple. Simplicity, to me, is having a minimal color palette, wearing just a few pieces, and keeping things fuss-free. My go-to for effortless style is always black. It’s chic and slimming, and it is fashionable. I love a good all-black outfit with a few touches of another color, like blush, white or grey. Since the goal is to be comfortable, I don’t want to layer on jewelry or accessories. The point is to look put together without putting in a whole lot of effort.

Once I have my base, I think through the extras, like shoes, a jacket or top layer, and a bag. A really easy way to do this is to pick a color and stick with it – like in this outfit, my shoes and jacket both live in that blush/brown family, and my bag is black. I wanted a little more of a refined look, so I reached for my favorite suede moto jacket to up the “cool” factor a little. The sneakers I grabbed were a no-brainer – I love these sneakers. They’re super comfortable, the prettiest blush color, and can be dressed up or down. I like them with this outfit because they lend themselves to the casualness of the look, while allowing the fitted jacket to polish the look. They balance the simplicity of the all-black without making too much of a statement. They’re so versatile! I’m looking forward to wearing them in the Spring paired with a easy sundress or ripped denim shorts and a feminine eyelet top.

After I’ve pulled together an outfit, a quick swipe of lipstick and spritz of perfume are all I need to head out the door feeling confident.
