And Just Like That…

…all my boot dreams came true.
you know what has a steep learning curve? dressing for the fall and winter in Chicago. or anywhere else where it can get downright ridiculously cold. as you may know, i spent the first 21 years of my life in the suburbs of Chicago, so you’d think i would know how the cold months go. three fall and winter seasons spent in the South really ruined me. possibly for life.
my first fall back in the city was pretty brutal. the perfect 65º and sunny days lasted for about 2.7 seconds and suddenly it was snowing. what i quickly realized was that i did not have the proper boots to survive the rest of the months. i ended up getting by with super thick socks and a pair of boots that i miraculously found at a frequently-shopped store. however, all of my fall and winter boots are very outdoorsy. you know, the ones with thick soles, clunky toes, weird closures…not exactly the kind you plan an outfit around. that’s one of the more obnoxious things about living in a place that experiences true winter – shoe options are quickly dwindled down to one or two and, in my case, they ain’t pretty.
until now.

those beauties above are the Joan of Arctic Wedge™ Mid Boot from SOREL. i had my eye on them last winter but didn’t pull the trigger. after spending just an hour in them the other day, i knew that i was wearing the boots that my feet would be spending most of their time in this fall. the feminine and sleek style make them perfect for pairing with an outfit and not feeling like you’re wearing boots. there’s a built-in wedge, which makes them incredibly comfortable and easy to walk in for lengths of time. did i mention they’re waterproof? so i’ll be trucking through the rain, snow, slush, and anything else these next few months without worrying about my feet getting soaked. aside from all of the technical details, i truly love how slim they are. you can easily slide your pants right over the top to hide that they’re a boot, or you can tuck your jeans or leggings into them for a different look.
i happen to think they’d look just darling with a pair of leggings and an oversized sweater or a winter dress and thick tights. or just about anything else. how can you go wrong? i’m looking forward to having dry and warm toes this fall, as well as a stylish pair of boots that i actually want to plan an outfit around.

for you students, SOREL has a fun campaign going on, called SORELstyle. simply share your ‘back to campus’ look using #SORELstyleContest on Instagram or Twitter and you could win a trip to New York for teenVOGUE’s Fashion University, or one of ten $250 shopping sprees and SOREL boots.
